Job Summary
Annyalla Chicks is looking to appoint a skilled and experienced Assistant Hatchery Manager to join our team at our Wrexham Hatchery. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with poultry or production experience to take the next step in their career and play a key role in the day to day management of a modern hatchery operation.
Working closely with the Hatchery Manager, you will help ensure the efficient, safe, and compliant running of the hatchery, maintaining the highest standards of chick quality, animal welfare, hygiene, and biosecurity.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting the management of all core hatchery operations, including egg intake, incubation, hatching, chick handling, and dispatch.
Leading, supervising, and training hatchery staff to ensure effective teamwork and adherence to company procedures and standards.
Assisting with workforce planning, daily task allocation, and performance monitoring.
Overseeing the coordination of egg and chick transport, including liaising with drivers and ensuring vehicle checks and maintenance schedules are followed.
Monitoring and enforcing strict hygiene, biosecurity, and health & safety standards throughout the hatchery.
Supporting the maintenance, servicing, and faultfinding of hatchery equipment such as incubators, hatchers, and associated systems.
Maintaining accurate production, quality, and performance records and supporting audits where required.
Responding promptly to operational issues and supporting alarm rota or outofhours cover when necessary.
Deputising for the Hatchery Manager during periods of absence.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Proven people-management or supervisory experience in a production or agricultural environment.
Good computer literacy, with the ability to maintain records and reports accurately.
The ability to work independently, use initiative, and support a management team.
Strong organisational and communication skills
Biosecurity Requirement
Due to strict biosecurity regulations, the successful candidate must have no involvement outside of Annyalla Chicks with other bird species, including domestic poultry or cage birds.
Skills and Experience
Previous experience in hatchery, poultry, or livestock operations.
Strong peoplemanagement and teamworking skills.
Excellent organisational, communication, and problemsolving abilities.
Good computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Excel and data entry.
Ability to work independently and as part of a management team.
A full, valid driving licence.
Flexibility to work hours that support the needs of the business which may include weekends.
A third level qualification in agriculture, animal science, or a related discipline.
Previous management or supervisory experience in a production environment.Basic mechanical or technical aptitude.
Knowledge of biosecurity, hygiene standards, and quality systems.
