Job Summary

Annyalla Chicks are looking for a Relief Farm Operative to assist in the day to day running of multiple broiler farms located in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, working as part of a team and supporting multiple Farm Managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Farm Management Team in all areas of broiler farm operations, gaining a full understanding of poultry production within Annyalla Chicks.

  • Develop skills and knowledge in line with the company’s competency framework, adding value to the department through continuous learning.

  • Carry out daily husbandry tasks to ensure birds are cared for to the highest welfare standards at all times.

  • Maintain accurate and uptodate records relating to birds, feed, supplies, treatments, and farm activities.

  • Assist with farm operations including vaccination, bird weighing, catching, and collection to ensure a smooth flow through processing and high customer satisfaction.

  • Monitor and manage ventilation, heating, feeding, watering, and lighting systems within agreed guidelines to create optimal growing conditions for birds.

  • Ensure all procedures are carried out in accordance with company specifications, including hygiene and sanitation standards.

  • Monitor the use of chemicals and hygiene processes carried out by service teams, ensuring chemicals are used safely and at correct levels. Report any shortfalls immediately to the Farm Manager.

  • Maintain a basic working knowledge of all farm equipment and systems, carrying out basic faultfinding and minor or emergency repairs where safe and competent to do so, and reporting defects promptly.

  • Maintain excellent standards of housekeeping at all times, keeping the farm, houses, and roadways clean and tidy, controlling weeds, and cutting grass to reduce vermin risk and present a professional image.

  • Ensure bird welfare is always the highest priority in all activities.

  • Communicate regularly with the Farm Management Team regarding flock performance to support efficient crop management.

  • Comply fully with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures to eliminate unsafe working practices.

  • Take shared responsibility for farm security, ensuring premises are secured and unauthorised access is prevented, and receiving authorised visitors as required.

  • Take responsibility, alongside the Farm Manager, for personal development and training in all aspects of farm management.

  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, basic first aid knowledge and a Basic Food Hygiene certificate, as required.

Biosecurity Requirement

Due to strict biosecurity regulations, the successful candidate must have no involvement outside of Annyalla Chicks with other bird species, including domestic poultry or cage birds.

Skills and Experience

  • Driving license essential

  • Previous experience in hatchery, poultry, or livestock operations

  • Ability to work independently

  • Flexibility to work hours that support the needs of the business

  • Basic mechanical or technical aptitude

  • Knowledge of biosecurity, hygiene standards, and quality systems
